Like the Cherry Pie, the Spaghetti and Fork celebrates the goodness of home cooked meals. The spaghetti and fork was the second sculptural piece made to explore the illusionary effects of layering shear fabrics and adding hard objects to enhance the surface texture, and add subtle symbolic references. In particular, a brown bead rosary was incorporated into the meat ball texture because I was brought up to give thanks for my food, and continue to be grateful for every meal. It is not a tradition with everyone, but it is an important one to me. There are also some little electrical wires and conductors which symbolize the use of electricity to cook the food. The parmesan cheese is yellow foam stuffing, and was chosen solely for its color and texture.

This piece has a wood frame inside, and is designed to come apart in the middle so it can be folded for shipping. The spaghettis have wire inside so their shape may be rearranged and changed to create the desired effect when hanging.

world history:
Pasta, food product made from dried dough that forms the basis of much Italian cuisine, as well as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Southeast Asian cuisines. Pasta, in all its forms, is high in complex carbohydrates.

Italian pastas, such as spaghetti and macaroni, are traditionally made from semolina flour derived from durum wheat. Stuffed pastas are made from all-purpose flour. Many pastas are made with eggs. Pasta dough is prepared by kneading the semolina or flour with water. The dough is either rolled out and cut, or forced through a pierced plated to form solid or hollow cylinders. It is partly dried in hot air, then more slowly out in the open air. Completely dry pasta can be stored for a considerable time without any loss of quality.
